Policy Resources

Although self-advocacy takes many forms, one major avenue for impacting systems change for people with disabilities is to advocate with local and state lawmakers for better laws and additional funding for disability programs and services. Many disability organizations, like those listed below, have resources devoted to organizing this type of advocacy and encourage the participation of self-advocates.

Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC) Legislative Platform

FDDC's info on the "Save the iBudget Waiver" campaign that will be the focus of its 2020 legislative efforts.
FDDC has created a guide and kit for helping create a Disabilities Awareness day in your own community.

Florida Center for Inclusive Communities Public Policy Page

The FCIC joins other disability agencies in the state in advocating for systems change efforts related to disability issues and provides practical resources for assisting self-advocates in contributing to systems change.

Disability Rights Florida

Disability Rights Florida was founded in 1977 as the statewide designated protection and advocacy system for individuals with disabilities in the State of Florida. Disability Rights Florida is a not-for-profit corporation that has authority and responsibility under eight federal grants.
